In a recent press release, two year-old battery start-up EVida, based in Isreal, China and the US, announced it has received a $250 million contract to supply Lithium-Iron-Phosphate batteries at a rate of 10,000/year for Mia Electric‘s vehicles through 2016.  The three all-electric microbus vans by the German and French company, Mia, will be sold in Europe and boast a range of 55 miles per charge with freeway-capable top speed of 68 mph.  The battery packs have a rated energy capacity of 8kWh and can be charged using a 220V European home charger in less than 3 hours.  A “rapid-charger” can provide an additional 5 miles range with just 10 minutes of charging.  The packs include BMS, thermal controls, and integrated software tools.  According to Mr. Laurent Buffeteau, Managing Director of Mia Electric, “We appointed EVida based on their ability to provide a flexible, low-cost and high quality battery pack solution tailored to the characteristics of our individual models, coupled with access to unrivalled expertise and a high-level of durability for our customers.”
